Vodka
The word vodka is thought to come from the translation of water into Russian: “Voda.” On the other hand, people from Poland used the term to refer to any white-distilled beverage. In the Middle Ages, vodka became popular as it was made from potatoes and had medicinal properties. Experts suggest that its use was every day in Russia because it was an effective remedy against the cold weather.
The first to develop this distillate were monks, thanks to whom the peasants in the eighteenth century began to drink vodka, and the use began to grow in Russia. However, the spirits did not start to come out of the country’s borders until 1917, during the Russian Revolution, when the population began to flee from Russia to Europe. However, the worldwide recognition of this spirit did not arrive before World War II.
